Volunteer, Fundraiser and Board Member for the American Lung Association OK
Helen Harmon retired in 2016 from her 40-year Professional Insurance Career. Although insurance was in her blood from her family owning an Independent Insurance Agency, Helen chose to go a different direction. Helen did bookkeeping, moved to Korea for 9 months, working for the University of Hawaii, coordinating with Military bases and the Peace Core for GED Classes for troops. Helen began her 40 year insurance career as a bookkeeper and CSR for a small insurance agency in Texas, moved back to Oklahoma City, working her way through various positions to Management.
Helen has a broad insurance background including risk management and major accounts management. Helen was an ACSR instructor in the areas of Commercial Auto, Garage Liability and Truckers Liability. She attended Central State University (Now UCO), has obtained designations of Certified Insurance counselor (CIC), Certified Professional Insurance Woman (CPIW), Accredited Customer Service Representative (ACSR) and Certificate in General Insurance. She has the honor of being Oklahoma’s first Outstanding Customer Service Representative in 1993, Dean of the 43rd annual IIAO Insurance School, listed as Who’s Who Among Rising Young Americans 1991 and1992, and elected Outstanding Woman of Oklahoma in 1979.
Helen was very active in the Insurance community, holding senior office positions in the following associations: Independent Insurance Agents of Oklahoma, Insurance Professionals of Central Oklahoma and National Association of Professional Insurance Women.
Helen was married to Larry R Harmon until his passing in 2016 of lung cancer. They have 4 boys and 8 grandchildren. Helen still attends the Church where she was raised. Helen has volunteered with ACS, helping handicapped children, The United Way of Central Oklahoma, All Souls Episcopal Church, serving on the Vestry and the hospitality committee, Oklahoma City Public Schools, and helping others where there is a need.
Helen’s most recent accomplishment is serving on the Board (past chair and remain as an officer on the board) of OK Leadership Board of the OK lung Association (ALA), serves on the Southwest Regional board of the ALA and is a CASA (Court appointed Special Advocate for children) since 2019.
