More about the Guest Speaker:
Dr. Myers grew up in Overland Park, Kansas. In 1993 at the age of 16 she was diagnosed with osteosarcoma and traded in her cheerleading uniform for chemotherapy, prosthetic knee replacement surgery, and months of rehabilitation. The following year she completed high school with her graduating class and matriculated to the University of Missouri- Kansas City’s six-year program for both her undergraduate and medical degrees. During her medical school tenure, she experienced recurrence of osteosarcoma in the left lung and chest and underwent three thoracotomies to remove tumors. She graduated in 2001, where she received the Laura L. Backus, M.D., Memorial Award for Excellence in Pediatrics. Following medical school, she completed pediatric residency at Children’s Mercy Hospital Kansas City in 2004 followed by fellowship in Pediatric Infectious Diseases in 2008, along with a master’s degree in public health from the University of Kansas. During her fellowship training, she was inducted into the AΏA Medical Honor Society.She joined the faculty at Children’s Mercy Kansas City in 2008, where she has led theDivision of Pediatric Infectious Diseases since 2018. She helped lead the organizational response during the first 2 years of the COVID-19 pandemic. For the past 3 years she has also been serving as the Medical Director for the Center for Wellbeing, providing skills training in mindfulness, gratitude, optimism, as well as supporting physicians, trainees, and advanced practice providers through everyday challenges and large systemic changes to foster thriving at work.
